Emily Steinberg, aka the National Service Ninja, has 20 years of experience in the national service field, first starting as an AmeriCorps member which brought her from Rochester, NY to Austin, TX in 2004. Since then, Emily has served across local, state, and national programs and commission environments, including as Associate Director of an award-winning AmeriCorps education program, College Forward; the Director of National Service at OneStar Foundation, the Texas state service commission, overseeing a portfolio of $14 million in AmeriCorps State, VISTA, and Volunteer Generation Fund grants; then Director of External Affairs for America’s Service Commissions (ASC), the national association of the 52 state service commissions based in Washington, DC. Most recently, Emily served as the Director of Programs and Strategic Growth with Lead For America, where she managed the American Connection Corps, a National Direct AmeriCorps program focused on digital equity in rural and underserved communities. Emily believes in the people power of AmeriCorps for creating lasting social change and the next generation of civic-minded leaders. She still resides in Austin where she enjoys veggie Tex Mex cuisine, politics, the arts, fostering rescue dogs, and volunteering.
